James Campbell Rogers, who died on Friday of last week at his home, 233 Linden, was a man well-known in Oak Park. He was a pioneer settler, having lived for 45 years with his family in their home, 203 Wisconsin, which he built in 1881. Mr. Rogers was born in Bath, N. Y., July 16, 1841, and came west in his youth, living in Clinton, Iowa, before coming to Chicago. He was married in 1865 to Mary Colt of Naperville, Ill., who survives him, with their two daughters, Mrs. William G. Atwood of New York and Mrs. Frank W. Thomas of Oak Park. As an active member of the Chicago board of trade for longer than 50 years, where he served as vice president and on the board of directors, Mr. Rogers had many warm friends and his keen interest in local affairs in Oak Park and many years of devoted service to Grace Episcopal church as warden and vestryman, brought him many lasting friendships in the village. Mr. Rogers was a man of charming personality and a fine mind, with ready wit and a fund of information, which mad him a delightful companion, as he was both well informed and widely traveled. An unfailing interest in his fellow men and an abiding charity for all kept him young, notwithstanding his three score years and ten, and his friendly manner, added to an old-fashioned courtesy, made him truly a gentleman. He will be greatly missed. James C. Rogers
