Gone to Rest

The subject of this sketch, Mrs. Sarah Hughes, nee Shindel, and widow of
Mr. B.W. Hughes who proceeded her 11 years ago, was born at Lebanon Pa.,
Feb. 17, 1822 and died at Naperville, Ill. Dec. 28, 1889 at the age of
sixty-seven  years, ten months, and eleven days.  For three weeks she had been afflicted with malarial fever from which she seemed to realize such improvement in her physical condition that she felt strong enough to leave her bed and spend the day with her family.

While her daughter Sarah was assisting her in her attempt to carry out
her plans, she was struck with paralysis of the heart, causing instantaneous
death.

On Sept. 23, 1852, she was joined in marriage with Mr. B.W. Hughes,
which union was blessed with nine children.  The husband and three children
proceeded her to a home beyond.  Three sons, three daughters, nine
grandchildren, five step-children and their families, and four sisters remain
to mourn her unexpected departure.

Mother Hughes was attached to her family with all the tenderness of a
mother's affection and was held in high esteem by her children and a large
circle of friends and acquaintances.  She served the Lord from the time she
was 12 years of age and became o member of the Evangelical Church 32 years
ago.  During her sickness she was composed, patient, and trusting in Jesus.
Shortly before she died she expressed a strong hope in Christ.  The Lord
comfort the bereft family.

The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, December 30th from the brick
church on which occasion L.B. Tobias and S.F. Entorf officiated.
